| Ariel 1865 British Tea Clipper Overall Length: 5'3" Hull Length: 4"2" This famous clipper won the "Great Clipper Race of 1866" with a 99 day run from Shanghai to London. An extremely graceful design combining a long, lean hull with a tall, well proportioned rig. Ariel was considered by many to be the most beautiful clipper ship ever built. She was lost without a trace on a run to Australia in 1872. Several of these vanes have been built. |
